What a Night!

What a Night!

Well, this time last week we were all go, go, go with set-up at The Black Box. Now that it’s been a week and we’ve taken the time to recover, we thought it’d be nice to do a small write-up on how it all went.

Of course, we kicked the night off with a proper radio introduction and a party cannon or two, because we like to start things off with a bang! You can see photo evidence of this over at the gallery where all the photos from the event are now live! Big thanks to Naomi Roe Photography for capturing the event so beautifully!

After a warm welcome and going over of the house rules, Nathan and I performed a poem called Up-Down together so that the first performer wasn’t feeling too much pressure! Now it’s been a week and I’m not sure in what order who performed, so here’s a list of everyone that did and once again a big big THANK YOU, for sharing your words with us, we couldn’t have done it without you;

Daryl Fletcher, Pradip Rathore, Ross Thompson, Thomas Elliott, Mark Cecil, David Braziel, Anthony Ferguson, Carla McG, Colin Dardis, Geradine O’Kane and our two Musical performers Connor Breen accompanied by David Stephens.

A few of the highlights of the night were when Pradip Rathore performed his poetry for us in Hindi, it’s always interesting to hear Poetry in another language! We also had an Autobiographical story featuring Pokemon that came from the heart of Mark Cecil and a very operatic and beautiful musical performance from Connor Breen who was accompanied by David Stephens on piano. And of course, an angry Englishman performing angry poems in the form of David Brazil.

We also crowned the newly married Colin Dardis and Geraldine O’Kane of Poetry NI as Mr & Mrs. Poetry NI. They have been pioneers in the poetry scene in NI and have given us nothing but support so we wanted to show them a little appreciation, although I think we managed to embarrass them much more instead, Sorry guys!

We also held a small raffle for some literary-themed prizes which went down a storm and we hope your all enjoying your gifts! As well as this, we had some of you participate in our Poetry Corner by writing down words and sentences which we read at the end of the night. We hope to continue this fun participatory action in the future, as well as the cupcakes which we know you all definitely enjoyed, big thanks to my good friend Paula Kennedy for those.

We closed the night with a few thank-yous for those who had been a big help to us especially Sound Engineer/DJ/Dad Philip Patrick who worked his magic with the sound desk and lights and made us all look the part on stage! We also promised you all Poemdemonium Part 2 and trust me, we are working on it and as soon as we have all the details you will too. We also have a few tricks up our sleeves to keep us in your minds in the meantime, so as ever keep your eye here on the blog. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

We look forward to updating you soon, for now, continue to write/sing/story-tell so that when the time comes, you can share your words with us!

Samantha & Nathan.
