A Poem About Sadness
By Samantha Patrick
Let heartbreak
Be your motivator
Let the pain
Burn in the soles of your feet
Let them carry you
Away from what was –
And into what will be.
Let sadness be your friend for a while,
But know that she too, will leave
And be replaced with contentment
Greet contentment with open arms
Because contentment will lead you to love
To future happiness,
With a new name
And a different face.
Let new love discover all the parts of you
Even the ones old love could not accept
Remember old love with fondness
But do not let him hold you back.
New love will accept you,
So let him.
Let him love you
Like you are supposed to be loved
And when new love too becomes old love
Greet sadness as an old friend
Let him wrap you in his arms
And promise you that next time
Love will be better
And when better love arrives
Let him better you
And smile
Because sadness was right.
